Ian Maxted

Ian Maxted is Gloucestershire Constabulary’s Safer Cyber Coordinator.
In his role he offers both strategic guidance to senior leaders in the organisation and practical advice to police officers and staff.
He also works closely with Gloucestershire’s Police and Crime Commissioner to help deliver one of the key priorities of the Police and Crime Plan – namely safer cyber. In this capacity Ian uses his skills and experience to develop strategies designed to protect people from internet crime and anti-social behaviour on social network sites whether at their place of work or at home.
Before joining Gloucestershire Constabulary Ian worked in the private sector as an ‘ethical hacker’. With a background in service delivery, infrastructure management and information assurance, Ian provides a dedicated internal resource to the Constabulary to help develop investigative cyber capabilities.
With a keen interest in social engineering and criminal psychology, Ian believes that education and collaborative partnerships will help to reduce the number of possible victims and reduce the volume of cybercrime. And, by working to reduce the void between industry and law enforcement, Ian’s aim is to help build both trust and partnership across the county to achieve a Safer Cyber Gloucestershire.
